Ideally, your boiler should be drained annually to keep it efficient and sediment-free. Though we recommend leaving this task to an Milwaukee heating contractor, it is something you can handle yourself. To do so, you’ll need a bucket, a wrench, a pair of gloves, and a hose. The steps are relatively simple:
- Turn off your boiler and the water supply at the main water valve.
- Turn on the hot water at your tub or sink. When it stops flowing, you’ve drained any residual water.
- Connect a hose to the boiler’s drain valve.
- Open your boiler’s drain valve and let the water flow.
- Circulate cold water through your tank and turn it off.
- Repeat Step 5 until no more sediment comes out.
- Close the valve, remove the hose, and turn the water back on.
