Homeowners aren’t powerless in the fight against heat pump breakdown. There are a few things you can do to ensure your HVAC system reaches a healthy lifespan:
- Keep your thermostat at one temperature
- Clear snow and ice from your outdoor heat pump after storms
- Examine air filters monthly and replace when needed
- Prune all shrubbery back at least 18 inches from the heat pump
- Hose your unit down once or twice a year
In doing these things, you can avoid a lot of unexpected shutdowns. Of course, we recommend regular heat pump maintenance as well. During this service, our technicians will handle the things you can’t: greasing components, testing electrical pieces, and testing overall system efficiency.
